1. Who we are

BM Discounter operates this comparison platform for building materials. For every question about this policy or about your data, contact info@bmdiscounter.com.

2. Data we collect

We process the categories of data below. Saved comparisons are stored in your own browser and are not kept on our servers.

• Account data: name, email address, hashed password and preferred language
• Business application data: company details, VAT or registration numbers where provided, contact name and role, and phone number
• Verification records: the status of your email and phone verification
• Security and audit logs: login events, IP address where applicable, and browser user agent
• Reviews you write and the photos or videos you attach to them
• Email delivery logs for the messages we send you
• Legal acceptances: which document version you accepted and when

3. How we use data

We use personal data for the purposes below — and for nothing else. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell personal data.

• Providing and securing personal and business accounts
• Verifying email addresses and, for business applications, confirming phone numbers
• Reviewing business applications and communicating the decision
• Moderating and publishing reviews and review media
• Detecting and preventing abuse, and keeping audit records of security-relevant events
• Sending transactional email such as verification codes and account notifications

4. Legal bases

Each processing activity rests on one of the GDPR legal bases:

• Performance of a contract: providing your account and its features
• Legitimate interest: platform security, abuse prevention and audit logging
• Consent: where we ask for it explicitly; you can withdraw consent at any time
• Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose data under applicable law

5. Cookies

The platform uses strictly functional cookies only — session and preference cookies, with no analytics or advertising trackers. The Cookie Information page lists exactly what is used.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertising networks. Data is shared only where needed to run the platform:

• Hosting: the platform runs on servers within the European Union
• Email delivery: a service provider delivers our transactional email
• Internal review: business application data is visible to the BM Discounter staff who review applications

7. Retention

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Security and audit logs are kept for a limited period and then removed.

When you request account deletion from your settings, the team processes the request and removes the personal data we are not legally required to keep.

8. International transfers

Personal data is stored on servers within the European Union and is not transferred outside the EU.

9. Security

Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transport, access to personal data is restricted by role, and security-relevant actions are logged.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights below. To exercise any of them, email info@bmdiscounter.com; we respond within the statutory period. You can also lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

11. Children

The platform is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact info@bmdiscounter.com.

12. Changes

We update this policy when our data processing changes. The effective date at the top always shows the current version; material changes are announced where the law requires it.
